It was a great day to be out on the lake. We had 5 Butterfly sailors off and on. It was surprising that more did not turn out for such a nice day. Trials and Tribulations of Post-College Sailing. Sorry for the lack of sailing entries in the last few days. I have in fact been going sailing. Midnight Rider competed for a day in Southern Bay Race Week, until a devastating tornado hit Hampton Yacht club the night after the first day of racing. I sincerely hope repairs and the revitalization of their programs go smoothly. My thoughts and support are with HYC members during this troubling time.

Saturday, August 08, 2015. RS Aero Capsizes - Mission Accomplished. It was getting to be a bit weird. Prior to the RS Aero North Americans in Oregon a couple of weeks ago I had sailed an RS Aero about 18-20 times, but I had never had an unintentional capsize. I had done some deliberate capsizes in order to make sure I knew how to do capsize recoveries. But in all those days of sailing the RS Aero I had not capsized accidentally once. My streak had to end some time. Even so I wondered how easy capsize rec.

Saturday, August 8, 2015. We have a large highway bridge at the north end of our sailing area and a troll lives under it. I know this because at times when you sail near it, especially with an incoming tide, there are various wind shadows, eddies and general mischief that cause one to become completely disoriented, becalmed and befuddled.
